On the other hand you can start looking at <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/44/11b142802dc611e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm">IT Scenarios</a> which will give you good idea about supporting architecture.

What do you mean by "the software"?
