Manage External Vendor Machine Capacity

Hello All

I am new to SNC.  I have a requirement hope you guys can provide solution or direction.

We are live with SCM 7.0 (PP/DS, DP, SNP) & ECC 6.0 & XI.

We sell range of products, which can be internally produced and also procured externally from Vendor, to the customers.  Both Internal production and external procurement has a capacity limit.

Because the capacity of the machines at the external vendor are shared with their customers as well, We have agreement with Vendor that he reserves certain
capacity of their machines for our Company. Whenever they take down machines for maintenance, vendor will inform us so that we can block the capacity in our
system.

Whenever we place order to our Vendor, it’s a two way communication. We place order on the required machine and get confirmation from the vendor if he can meet the
date, considering raw materials, availability of the machine (he also share capacity of the machine internally and external customers).

When we get a requirement for a product from our customer,

A. we have to check the capacity both internally and externally.

B. If we are not able to meet the internally the requirement date, create requirement for external vendor

C. If  we see capacity overloaded internally and vendor external capacities are open, then move order from internal to external.

Reports or other Requirements:-

  1.    Capacity load situation at our internal location and vendor location needs to be reported to our management weekly.

  1. Ability for planners to look at External capacity loading and move orders from internal to external & Vice versa if required.
  2. We would also optimize the orders at the Vendor by increasing the priority of the order which needs to be finished first . Like reducing  setup time, prioritize orders  based on changes on requested date, etc.

We are not sure how to map this requirement in SAP.  We don’t want to connect vendor system or checking Vendor system for information.

  1. Will all our requirements will be satisfied with SNC/SNP?
  2. Is it possible to check the capacity of the Vendor Resource in our   system?.
  3. The work order is in SCM system. Can we work this object using the WEB interface of XI?
  4. Is possible to check the list of the work order directly in APO without the WEB interface?
  5. Has the Work Order contains PDS like a PPDS Production Order?. Because there are sever machines in our vendor location. Can we choose alternate sequences?

Thanks

Sasi

HI Sasi,

You have taken a great pain in outlining the requirement.

Looking @ the details requirement outlined,  the way SNC can be used

PPDS - I am not hands on, but can provide high level details.

The adjustment of capacity at vendor or In-house in what duration it takes palce. Meaning, on time scale after you release the Production Order/SNC work order,  How much in advance you will release and make it available for Vendor to review and confirm the Capacity is the Key.   If

Here are my thoughts:

using PPDS - Optimizer, you can define the capacity constraints / availability for scheduling the Planned Order creation. As far as you have time to adjust your plan, PPDS is helpful to achieve this.

but once your Order is released to Vendor and if a last minute adjustment is needed then the system cannot handle it.  Example Breakdown etc..

Once a order is release to Shop floor for execution, if there are changes in capacity observed and material is still not released to shop floor, then you have scope for adjustments by deleting the Order and create new or modify.

The purpose of SNC Work Order leads to this, meaning, If you release a WO to Vendors and if expect him to create Planned Receipts for future dates, that means he is commuting his resources.  Thus you are sure of using the capacity.

Hope this help for you take a suitable direction.  I will be glad to answer a specific query

Thx
