When interating XI with an SAP system,

How to decide which adapter to use from IDOC and RFC?

HI,

if you have a dedicated IDOC --> prefer IDOC

if you have a dedicated RFC -->prefer RFC

If you have nothing dedicated:

a) do you want sync or async communication

--> async prefer IDOC

--> sync prefer RFC

Hi,

you can also consider to use ABAP Proxy if you are working with Systems based on SAP Web AS 6.40.

RFC support synch processing but Idoc support only asynch processing. If your requirment is to a synch processing, then going for RFC. If a standard Idoc is available and your requirment is asynch, then Idoc will be a better choice. If your SAP system is on a WAS of 6.20 or greater and if load is going to be high then go4 proxies
