Mandatory Mappings (minOccurs>0)

I am reading a mapping material regarding mandatory mappings, after the mapping is done, and here is the quote:

"If not sufficient values are provided from the source structure the last source element is reiterated" 

I don't know how to interoperate the "the last source element" here, does it mean for one target field, if the no source value provided, then it will grab the available souce element value right before it?

No.

your source should have data for all mandatory fields other wise you get mapping exception(simple terms).
