Dear Antony,

This is good step I would say to upgrade to SP08 service pack.

Please see below the answers for your queries for the smooth implementation:

1. You can follow the step by step by guide share by SAP for upgrading the SAP MDM SP08.

https://websmp101.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700001668502008E

This is specific to upgrade from the 5.5 to 7.1, but this will help you in following all the necessary steps that need to be followed and you must not miss any point relevant to your landscape upgrade.

2. No Specific tools are needed for upgrading to SP08. After the MDS server is upgraded on your network, you can download the latest compatible version of MDM DM, IM, Syndicator, Console from Service Market Place and start using the System.

3. Upgrade should be performed by the MDM and Basis team together, as the Functional testing is to be done by the MDM team for the Solutions implemented and SP08 impact. And basis has to get the MDM server and tools for SP08 upgrade and Configuration settings.

4. Please perform the end to end testing for all the MDM soultions once SP08 upgrade is done by the Basis team. Find out is there is any issue happening to the Data Model and normal functioning of MDM Solution and bring it to the Notice find a Solution if not raise SAP OSS message to get it rectified.

Analyse the SAP Notes for the SP08 well in advance before upgrading the System from SP08_Infofile.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks and Regards,

Hi Antony,

Going upgradation is always good since SAP providing more functionalities with SP08.

Better to have Latest Patch from SP08. Since lower patches have some issues.

As mentioned by others below are the primary steps required for upgradation.

Upgrade process should start with Sand box to Dev and On.

1,Take back(archive) repositories.

2,Make sure all interfaces completed( Unprocessed files in ready folder)

3,Basis guys will Do server upgrade for complete package(MDIS, MDSS and MDS)

4,Install the new set of client tools with latest version.Check for correct patch

5,Portal, PI and APIs should be upgrade as part process.

6,Complete Servers(Package) Restart required.

7, Update all the repositories in console.

7,Reset all the passwords for servers in Console: MDIS, MDSS.

6,Do a sanity check create a new record and check PI is picking or not.

7,Check for portal connectivity from CE. if not check& reset connection/session parameters in NWDS.

Thanks

Hi,

Recently we went for an upgrade to MDM 7.1 SP08.

After upgrading MDM, kindly upgrade PI MDM adapter if you have MDM - PI connections.

Also if you have MDM ABAP API, Portal integration with MDM, then upgrade them to their compatible versions.

Its recommended to restart ECC, PI and MDM systems post-upgrade to make the upgrade effective.

And make arrangements to take complete back-up of your repositories before going for an upgrade.
