EM/TOTAL_SIZE_MB - resize

Dear all,

I need to increase the SAP parameter EM/TOTAL_SIZE_MB to a value of over 50GB, 52920. I am not sure if I really have the necessary resources for this.

Is there any way to check how much I can extend this parameter ?

I am ruuning AIX and SAP on Oracle.

PS . the physical RAM memory is about 54Gb.

Thank you,

J.

Hello Jordan,

What is your current Ext Memory Size. Do you really need this to bump up that high ?

Answering your question one approach can be checking OS resources (Phys Memory usage, Memory free etc) at AIX level (through commands e.g. topas) while your SAP is running at peak load. You can also check ST06 historical data to check the usages.

Based on you available free memory you can decide how much you want to increase your extended memory.

Thanks,

Hello Samik,

For now the Ext Mem is 42Gb.

SAP has performed an TPO check on the system, and they recommended this value to us.

On the other hand  I am thinking that if they recommended this, they took in evidence all the resources of the system.

Thanks

Hello Jordan,

Yes, SAP should have done it already. But it is always to good check once.

Thanks,

Samik,

You were right, I checked the swap space & st06, and made me decide.

I can increase the parameter without any problem.

Thank you,

J
