project structure

Hi experts,

             the client wants to structure project base on the request he generates, here the request is like an internal request which wants to develope a telecom tower for specific region. this request is generated by an internal team to a planning team then ps will come. how can we link the request to ps. it is not a customer project where based on inquiry we generate quotation we can link through wbs. but wt about this situation. could you please help me out.

From PS point of view, to develop telecom tower, you can think of investment project scenario using PS-IM functionalties.

Hi Abhinay,

You can structure project like a typical Investment Project wherein you can assign different WBS elements for different work related to Telecom Tower ( E.g Engineering, Procurement, Assembly,Acceptance).

Subsequently you can do date, cost planning, budgetting for these WBS elements  using Investment Program.

Enter actual dates,actual costs and then carry out settlement to asset under construction and fixed asset depending upon the scenario.

Hi Abhinay,

Yes, we allocated budget in PS from Invesment program.

The items are budgeted in the investment program. You can use the cost planning data of the investment program as a proposal for budgeting. You can copy the plan versions of your choice to the budget.

The investment program budget values can then be distributed (control parameter: program type) among the investment measures (in our example, the top WBS elements of the investment projects).

The budget values of the top WBS element are then distributed further among the level 2 WBS elements (but only if the individual work packages are to be responsible for their own budgets).

Cutting it short, I would like to give you some pointers on your issue

how IM is link with PS

search in forum for that there are many threads on this topic.

the budget we allocate in PS is to be related with IM?

you can use IM for budgeting your projects and WBS

Now, coming back to your issue, Yes, you can create project structure through requests (Appropriation requests created in IM)

Follow the below given path in your testing server:

1. Create Appropriation Request (IMA11)
2. Do rough cost planning for the request.(under tab 'variant'->plan values tab) (IMA11)
3. Provide partner name,position id, attach relevant documents etc. (IMA11)
4. Approve Appropriation request(under control data tab) (IMA11)
5. To approve request through workflow use t-code (SBWP)
6. Under Measures/Assets tab of AR you will find a button with the description 'Project'
7. Click on that button and enter the field thereafter like project definition, wbs element,project profile etc.Also,select the radio button Adopt plan values if you want to copy planned values from AR to project.
8. Release AR.
9. Save

This AR number (on saving) will be your PD id.

Note:Just to give you a kick start on the process, I have cut short the whole process (as before AR we create Investment programs (IM31) then budget distribution IM52 etc.)

I hope he is expecting the He (Former Member) expecting the link between the Project Creation with the link with the quotation.  He is not thinking about Investment Profit or Cusomter Project.

Hi Abhi,

Can you be a bit specific, like will the request from internal team is based on some order expectations or will it be after confirmation of erection of tower for particular region. Wither way internal team can create a saleorder, and pass the info to projects. Then PS can develop structure based on this internal no and attach the billing WBS later to SO. Try this possibility.

         the request here is not like inquiry. it is investment project, base on this request we can devlope project but like quotation process how can we link the request to project.

Hi Abhi,

What exactly you are looking at?.

1. As an internal project if you want to track, are you allocating the Budget for the Project based on the towers to be installed?. I hope you can understand how the Investment Management scenario works.

Ex : Tower1

Region: A     Region : B  Region : C

For all these regions there can be budget allocation and the regions can be your WBS which captures cost and revenue.

The Investment management has following steps;

1.     Investment Program

2.     Appropriation Request

3.     Investment Measure

4.     Information System

2. If you are not going for Investment or on Budget lines to start the project then you may think of going ahead with Customer Project scenario. In Customer Project always the practice is like there will be Sales Invoice which will be raised on the Customer that is where we are going to deliver the product or service.

I have come across such projects and we went with Customer projects scenario only. When we think of erecting towers also the Telecom scenario may involve laying of cables and digging work so forth so on.
