SAP GUI dual installation

Last year somone posted an article on how to install SAP GUI 7.20 twice on a desktop and have seperate logon pads.  I would like to know if it is possible to install SAP GUI 7.30 in a sperate directory on the desktop and keep SAP GUI 7.20 so we can do a side by side comparison.  If this is possible, how is it done?

Only one version of SAP GUI is possible.

SAP GUI for Windows uses the Microsoft Controls technology, which means that all controls are registered locally during the installation. As a result, the system database contains an entry indicating where each control can be found. Since the system always registers the latest controls, only the most recently installed version of a control is available at any time.

This means that on a single computer only one version of SAP GUI for Windows can be installed. During installation of a new SAP GUI release, any older SAP GUI release present on the computer is uninstalled. However, SAP GUI for Windows supports virtualization products like Citrix XenApp, Microsoft App-V and VMWare Thinapp which can be used to run multiple SAP GUI versions on the same client in parallel if needed.

Please check the installation guide for SAPGui for Windows 730 (page 10) for more details:

Hello Dan,

Unfortunately, this can only work in SAPGUI for Java.

An alternative could be to install 7.30 as an App-V instead.
