Hi,
Planning for Support pack upgrade to an ABAP system..
How to go with minimized downtime.
at what stage it can be done and method of achieving
can we apply any particular SP's even in system uptime without harmful? , If so , pls tell me those
Thanks in advance
Hi daniel
Their is an option given by SAP to minimise the down time while applying packs.
Till There are 4 stages
1.Preparation
2.Import1
3.Import2
4.Cleanup
you can continue till Import1 completes while users are in actrive with downtime minimise option.
To set this u goto Extras -->setting in that Import tab u set tick for downtime minimised option.
for more u can search in net ,for this SAP has given SIM file also.
Thanks

In my experience the best way to minimize the downtime is to know what to expect. Testing your SPS in a sandbox (copy of your production environment) will give you the advantage to know and clean any issues that might result on additional downtime.

No, you should not apply SP's while system is open to users, you should take a full backup and apply your patches during scheduled downtime.
Thats my 2 cents.
