Project Coding Mask

Hi All,

I have a query relating the Project Coding Mask.

There is a scenario where we already have existing projects with the current Coding Mask.Due to some reason client wants to change it now, will it be possible to edit the current Coding Mask or we have to create a new one? What will be the best option in this case?

Thanks in advance,

Nitisha

Hi Nitisha,

You can only change existing masks as follows:

o   You can change a numeric section to an alpahmumeric section of the

     same length.

o   You can extend the coding mask with an alphanumeric section.

However, I think the best option here would be to create a new Coding mask.

Hi Ankur/ Gokul,

Thanks for your reply.

I have 2 more queries relating the reply:

1. Can we also change the position for the separators?

2. Also, if we extend the existing coding mask with an alphanumeric section, the already existing operative projects won't be affetcted?

Thanks,

Nitisha

Hi Nitisha,

I think, system wont allow.

2. Also, if we extend the existing coding mask with an alphanumeric section, the already existing operative projects won't be affetcted?

Creating a new mask is the best and preferred option rather than extending an existing one.

Though it won't have any affect on existing projects but you would might end up playing with the original identity of already created projects.Think yourself.!!

Hi Nitisha,

Ankur and Gokul is right you need to avoid the changes in existing coding mask because system notable to save changes existing coding mask when you save after changing.

suggest to client for new coding mask in this scenario.

Hi Nitisha,

Exactly what does the client want to change in the existing coding mask? There are certain things which system would not allow you to change in the coding mask, considering the fact that some projects exist with that particular coding mask.

Certain things which can be easily changed are listed in Ankur's post above.

Whatever the case, i would suggest you to create a new one to avoid any complications.

Gokul
