Hi,
While doing disaster recovery test on one of the machine ..
I have done following things..
I have maintained the mediums for full data backup and incremental.
I have started recovery in ADMIN mode.
1. Recovering full backup using -- recover_start DATA
2. Recovering the incremental backup using - recover_start INC
After successful restore of incremental backup i made the db into ONLINE.
But the data seems to be the old week backup, even though it restored successfully.
Need to use any other commands to overwrite the data ?
Hi,
What is the version of MaxDB ? Do you have DBMGUI or DBStudio installed ?
Please post the output of the command
dbmcli> backup_history_list

Hi Yashwanth,
I have taken the full and incremental backups on the source system then i am restoring on the other system.
Maxdb version is 7.6
I don't have dbmgui installed.
What i would like to do is , restoring the full and incremental backups from source system to target system.
Help me on this
Hi,
From your reply I understood that you are trying to restore a databackup and a subsequent incremental backup from a source system to a target system. correct ?
Please clarify the following things so that I can give you correct steps on how to restore:
1)
What are the source and target versions of the MaxDB ?
2)
Are you trying to restore the database to a point in time when the incremental backup was taken or to a different point-in-time before/after the incremental backup was taken ?
3)
Login to the source system database as DBM / SUPERDBA user and run the following command
dbmcli -d <**db_name**> -u DBM,<**password**> backup_history_list
Let me know the output of this command.
Regards,
Yashwanth
Yes What you said is correct..
1.Source and target maxdb version are same. Maxdb version 7.6.03.09
2. I just want to restore the backup to latest incremental backup , at that i would like to restore.
3. backup_history_list output

Hi,
From the output attached, I can see that the last complete DATA backup was DAT_000000037. If I understood correct from your previous reply, you would like to restore the last INCREMENTAL backup that would be PAG_000000047 here.
Proceed as follows in the target system.
1)
Copy the "DAT_000000037" and "PAG_000000047" to the target system.
2)
First recover the data backup "DAT_000000037" with initialization using the following command in your target system.
3)
To start a restore of a data backup a database session has to be created:
dbmcli on DB> db_connect [<user>],[<password>]
As you created the dbmcli session using the database manager operator user, no user has to be specified here. The same user will be used.
At first it is good to check if the backup can be accessed as expected and reading the data will work fine. A service session is required for this:
dbmcli on DB> db_admin
dbmcli on DB> service_connect
dbmcli on DB> recover_check <medium_name> <backup_type>
For the example in your case it would be:
dbmcli on DB> recover_check DAT_000000037 data
If the output of this command shows a returncode 0 and information about the
backup the check was successful. To start the restore of this data backup
afterwards you can carry on with:
dbmcli on DB> service_release
dbmcli on DB1>db_activate recover DAT_000000037 DATA
Note: This command performs an initialization of the database and afterwards a restore of the specified data backup. Please be aware that initialization means that all data are deleted and
therefore lost forever.
4)
Then proceed with the restore of incremental backup as follows:
dbmcli on DB1> recover_start PAG_000000047 PAGES
5)
After the restore of the backup it is required to load the system tables.
To load system tables, bring the database online. Connect to the database as SYSDBA user with same user as SOURCE system.
dbmcli on DB1>load_systab
For more information refer to the SAP Note: 1377148 - FAQ: SAP MaxDB backup/recovery
and the Wiki Page: http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/MaxDB/HowTo+-+SAP+MaxDB+recovery+with+Database+Manager+CLI
Let me know if you have any more questions on this.

Hi,
A small correction to step 5 in my previous reply
5)
After the restore of the backup it is required to load the system tables manually as of version 7.6 or less
To load system tables, Connect to the database as DBM user in target & run the command
dbmcli on DB1>load_systab -u SYSDBA,<Password>
(SYSDBA User/Pwd from the source database system)

Yashwanth
Hi yeshwanth,
Sorry for late reply, I am able to successfully restore the database with data and incremental backups also. Able to login into sap also.
One more issue .....
1. Actually on the test server which is running, i made to db_admin .
2. Then i would like to restore the full backup with the db_activate recover DATA.
3. But due to permission problem in the medium of file, db_activate is not started.
4. Then i try to make online of the db by db_online.
But its not coming to online.
Even though the db_activate is not started, why its not coming to online.
Please advice ..
Hi,
It is not clear for me what kind of error you are experiencing. Please tell me the exact error message you see when you try to bring db online.
Post the output of the command db_restartinfo
Please attach all the KnlMsg* files and dbm.prt file from the RUN directory of your database.
Regards,
Yashwanth
