is it possible to delete files in work directory

Hello

I wander is it possible to delete(or decrease size to)  files  in work directory like dev_evt, dev_tp, ENQLOGxy, dev_icfx, dev_icm_sec, ESSTATS, INSTSTAT, SHMLOCKS_00000x, dev_rfcx-log

where x and y are numbers 0-9(e.g 1 or 2).

Of course any detailed (step by step if reasonable) explanation would be higly apreciated

Thank you in advance.

Jan

Hi Jan,

why you want to delete files from the work dir. All the files in the work dir are need to check error related to service running on SAP server. When you restart any service on SAP system, its coorsponding log file is updated in work dir. I will not suggest you to delete any files from work dir.

dev_evt:  file needed for event log like :Background jobs cannot be started.

dev_tp : start the transport control program (tp) using RFC,

ENQLOGxy, Enqueue log file

Thanks and Regards,

Hi Vipin,

If you delete these files while SAP is down and restart these files would get recreated. So no issues.

As of work directory clean I would look for core file . Cleaning that up should free up space.

Hi,

Hope you are doing good.

check sap note 1589548 - J2EE engine trace files fills up at a rapid pace, if you are using a JAVA stack and SAP NOTE: 16513 if ABAP stack is being used.

Thank you and have a nice day :).

Hi Jan,

You can also just reboot and delete the created bak-Files. During restart the current traces are copied to BAK and recreated from scratch.

Additionally to core-files (as recommended by Ruchit) you can also search for LSMW-Files and clarify with migration colleagues if they need to be there (very often these files are stored there accidentally by using SAP default HOME-dir for LSMW-purposes, and will stay there forever if the BC admin doesn't complain).

You bring down the SAP application and then stop the sapstartsrv process for the instance as well (stopsap startupsrv)

Also clean the shared memory segments that was attached to the instance (cleanipc)

Then delete the contents of the work directory under the instance specific directory.
