Firefox search plugin for SDN

Former Member
0 Kudos

Hi,

I have created a search plugin for Firefox. The files can be downloaded from http://www.hariraj.com/Firefox.SAPSDN_SearchPlugin.zip

Unzip the files to your "<<Firefox install dir>>\searchplugins" directory.

I have tested the plugin with Firefox 1.0.1

If someone has problems with other versions please let me know.

Regards,

Hari

Hi, nice stuff. I see in the source that you limit the search to the forums. Wouldn't it be nice to extend it to the new search engine (and enelbe a global search)?

Hi Eddy,

What do you mean by global search? including SAP Notes and SAP.com or ?

My original idea was to search SDN, but sure its possible to extend it to a global one.

You're currently searching on the forums only (correct me if I'm wrong). A search on the SDN library and SDN weblogs like within the new SDN search engine (see also /people/sap.user72/blog/2005/03/17/searching-sdn-just-got-better)

ok...now I see the new SDN search engine thanks for the link. Yes it will nice to use the new feature.

Unfortunately it uses the query text embedded in the "content" parameter, I couldn't find a way to embed the string in a search plugin.

I will have a look at it and keep the post updated.

When I have some more time, I'll have a look at it too.

Hi,

I created a sherlock plugin for firefox few weeks ago. No time to upload it up to now. It supports the new Search and it's always searching all SDN areas.

The <interpret> Part is not implemented, so Sidebar with single search results is not supported.

I couldn't download Hirirajs plugin? File was not found. Maybe there are some parts we can aggregate.

My version will be available on SDN Download in a few days. I'll inform you.

Tim, the plugin file is available in the link I have provided.

Cool...you have found a way to search all of SDN, does the SDN navigation is also displayed or only the results?

I'll write a web log trying to sum up all possibilities (I'll ask that you two guys get also points).

I'm currently communicating with the SDN guys to see what's possible/allowed.

Hi Hari,

it searches all of SDN and displays the full navigation. In the moment there are several submission of SDN Search plugins. They are consolidated and published in the moment.

Some extra information from my colleague Markus Riedinger:

Guys,

In case you didn't notice yet, there is a weblog now on this matter: /people/eddy.declercq/blog/2005/03/31/foxy-iso-sdn-4-ltr

Hi Tim & Eddy,

Nice hack

The only thing I miss now is the way to see "only" the results from Weblog or forums and so on, in an easy way. I have to refine the search and submit a new request.

It will be good if there is a summary of result groups like in www.answers.com and I can directly see the results say for e.g. in 'forums'.

BTW I have also noticed I couldn't submit a search query from Firefox...getting an javascript:void(0) error.

My intention was to achieve this with Conquery, but due to URL encoding Conquery isn't suitable.

Sorry guys,

tried to get the plugin on SDN but somehow it doesn't seem to work.

Has it been removed or is there something else broken.

Cheers,

Wolfgang

Oops...the link seems to be broken. I get the following message.

---

500

Internal server error -- contact system administrator.

Eddy, has the link been moved?

hariraj,

it's working now - though it did stop working for a few hours a bit earlier. don't fret - i think it's a systemwide problem since i tried searching using the actual search bar, and got the same error (or actually, a similar one - a java error).

Guys,

Sorry for the late reply. I was on holiday for a week. The download seems to work perfect now.
