New distribution channel

Hey outside world,

We consider the create for the first time an additional distribution channel for our company.

The aim is to direct all our web-orders via this new channel. Would this be a wise decision to take ?

What impact could this have on our master data ?

Customer ? Material ? Price Conditions ?

Are there other things to take into consideration ?

Hi,

As new distributional added before you have to analyze this new distributional channel is suficiant  or not for your correct requirement (mainly your pricing is meet to all customers).

Already Lakshmipathi and TW said in all level of process.

The aim is to direct all our web-orders via this new channel. 

I would consider the below points:

1. Is pricing different from goods distributed via web? (e.g. extra discount, special price)

2. Are there dedicated delivering plants for web based deliveries? (for Customer ABC the delivering plants are in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. But if this customer orders via web ONLY one delivering plant Rotterdam. Which should automatically be populated in the sales order)

3. point 2 is part of having field values in MMR and CMR for sales org and distribution channel in MM01/2 and XD01/2 respectively. (e.g. CMR customer group, price list etc.)

4. continuation of point 2, Dedicated shipping points for web based

One way of looking in to it is when the all / many processes (OTC, return, cash sale, rush order etc.) are affect by new channel (web) then go for distribution channel.

Or else go for creation of a dedicated sales document type (e.g. ZWEB) with its delivery type, billing type.

We cant comment on this as you are the right person who knows the Business process.  If you want to have others' opinion also, you should update here

  • currently how many sales areas are there and
  • how many sales document types are there

since you would have to extend all these sales document types to the new sales area.

The aim is to direct all our web-orders via this new channel

How currently, these orders are being handled.  Of course, there is nothing wrong creating a new distribution channel and extend the sales area to a sales document type but before doing this, you have to ensure that all existing open orders are foreclosed as you cannot invoice with the existing sale order.  Once the new sales area is created, again you have to create new sale orders.

Hi Wouter

If you go for New Distribution channel, you need to extend all your customer, material master, pricing records and it requires Organisational configurations & it assignments. What do you think if you create a new Sales Document type so that your requirement can met, also if you want you can create seperate Delivery doc, Billing docs.....
