New Product Introduction- controlling how newly created products enter SNP plan run

Experts-

We have been live with SNP for +2yrs.  A chronic pain point since go-live has been how to we ensure newly created products (>50 per week globally) are included in the weekly SNP heuristic plan run.  Our current process relies on manual addition of new materials to selection IDs by a select few global data managers, which is viewed as too manual from end users.

I am very interested in hearing what other more automated alternatives are available.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,

One solution to your problem is - use Planner codes !

1. Whenever your master data team sets up a new product in APO , In APO Product Master (/n/sapapo/mat1) under the very first tab -Administration, Assign SNP Planner codes which could be a 3 char value like ABC, XYZ...or alphanumeric.

2. And then include this planner code in the selection IDS (in the selection ID, you the condition "APO SNP Planner") that you use to run your background jobs for SNP planning run. This way you don't have to worry about maintaining your selection ID each time a new product is introduced. Its gets automatically selected during the planning run as long the selection ID with the planner code in it is included in the batch job.

Hope this helps.

Hari-

Great suggestion. We are using SNP planner to control the send of SNP planned orders to ECC.  We will review using this to control heuristic plan run as well.  Still a dependency on correct/timely master data setup, but one less step in our SNP setup process.

Matt

Matt,

Maintaining this master data for planner code is not tedious since its just one field and most companies have some form of a standardized process / guide they follow when a new product is introduced which could have a list of things/set ups to do. This could be part of that guide, Its a one time set up right when the product is set up. This is as best as we can get dealing with selection ids, like... its bare minimum to set up a product first to be able to plan it.

Thanks

Hi Matt,

Adding to Hari's comment, I would encourage you to create selection profile based on standard material master fields which are updated automatically when material master is CIF to APO like, Location type, Procurement type, etc...

When your selection profile is based of such fields you need not worry about new products since they are updated whenever material master is created/changed, your profile will always be current eliminating need of manual update.

Hope this helps.

Hi Matt,

You can work with MRP Controller. This parameter is automatically updated on APO side. You can have different active MRP Controllers (for active SKUs) or inactive MRP Controller (DIS - for discontinued SKUs).

So, in your selection profile for Location/Product you choose your locations and as MRP Controller you choose exclude DIS (for discontinued SKUs). In this way you select all active SKUs automatically.

Also you can create job to transfer the new stuff on APO side automatically.

Hope this help you.
