Question on sharing /usr/sap/trans with servers on different SAP Kernels

Hello Gurus,

Currently we are on Solution Manager 7.1 which is on 7.2 SAP Kernel.  Our CTS domain controller is configured on the SM 7.1 server.

Our SAP servers on are all on NW 7.01 sap kernel.  Is it wise to share the same /usr/sap/trans path with SM7.1 and our NW7.01 servers since they have different SAP Kernels?  or does it matter?

So, you want to use Solman as the Domain Controller for other SAP servers.  Kernel shouldn't matter, but it is advisable for all systems in the landscape to be using the same kernel version/patch.

Ravi,

That was my concern.  Does the Domain Controller need to be on the same Kernel level as the other sap server on the same landscape?

No, it does not.  You should be fine with your configuration.

Hi Anthony

Kernel is not going to make a difference. You can use different transport directories for each landscape . Say for ECC you can have /usr/sap/trans/ECC for BW you can have /usr/sap/trans/BW. It will just keep things clean and manageable for you.

Amit,

Good suggestion.  I was thinking about cleaning up the directories.  Any suggestions on how to change the transport directory without loosing transport history?

Are you referencing tp buffer ? because you wont loose your import history.

In order for you to customize your transport directory you will have to add these two parameters.

DIR_TRANS and EPS_ROOT

It does not matter, you can share /usr/sap/trans.
