Hi all, Normally 1st level WBS is same as Project definition. is it necessary or not if yes then, is there any logic behind the same?.. Mandar
Hi Mandar,
If you want make a project Structure as a Hirarchial Structure it is mandatory. With this you can do cost planning and Budgeting total up and shows in level one wbs element. And also if you want to do budgeting in first level you can use in the scenario,so that you can use the budget in any of level which is under level one..

Hi Mandar,
Its not a hard a fast rule that the 1st level WBS should be same as the Project definition. However, this is a widely followed concept across industries since all the costs posted in the project get rolled up to the top level WBS and having a top level WBS same as the PD provides a sort of linearity to assess the values.
Thats the simple reason behind it.
