Are Smart Forms included as part of the standard SAP licensing agreement if my client has purchased SAP ERP? Does this apply even when I create my own custom Smart Form? We are investigating the decision criteria of when to use Smart Forms vs. Adobe Interactive Forms. I would appreciate any references out there that provide insight as to when to use one versus the other. Thanks.
Smartforms come with your standard R/3 only.
as for choosing between the two, Adobe forms are next version of smartforms they can give better look feel and as addition they can also provide you facilities for user inputs which is not there with smartforms.

So there is no additional licensing required to create custom Smart Forms, unlike Adobe Interactive Forms which requires you to buy the base license as well as additional licensing depending on how many interactive forms use customize and how they are used?
I am curious if you would agree with the following recommendation I have made to my client?
Use SAP Smart Forms for the following:
- For READ-ONLY communication
- For ON-LINE processing in SAP: Communication to TIC employees who have access to SAP through SAPGUI
- For OFF-LINE processing outside SAP: Communication to users who do NOT have access to SAP (e.g. remote-TIC users, customers and vendors) through the Internet, fax, or email
Use Adobe Interactive Forms only for the following:
- For REQUEST and RESPONSE communication where Adobe Reader (version 7.0.8 or higher) can be used
- For ON-LINE processing in SAP where a RESPONSE is required: Communication to TIC employees who have access to SAP through SAPGUI or Enterprise Portal
- For OFF-LINE processing outside SAP where a RESPONSE is required: Communication with users who do not have access to SAP (e.g. remote-TIC users, customers, and vendors) through Internet, fax, or email
Yeah, you may go with that but I will suggest you to consult your functionals on the requirements before goin for that as they always have this knowledge as to which FORM to use at what point.
Also, for portals and online stuff, Adobe is a good option till you dont get into errors as thats the point where you face lots of trouble in correcting them.
