PI - New Hardware

Hi,

As we are migrating our systems with new hardware and os, we will have a dry run with testing high complexity interfaces followed by live.

The dry run will have a fresh PI installation into the new hardware where the IP address will change. For Production, the IP address will change and will be copied into the new hardware.

I assume that PI does not work like normal R/3 system copy since we have both java side and abap side.

Based on these can somebody clarify the following

1. do we need to redploy all the certificates and java modules including mappings ?

2. Does value mapping and Availaibility time planning be transported or need to configure it manual?

3. How will this affect the SLD for testing it will be new ip address but for actual production the same ip address will be maintained.

What are all the other precautions or manual config that we need to do

Regards

Anandh

Hi,

System copy can be done, but i prefer new installation on top of that deploy modules, certificates.

We had faced couple of issues when we have performed system copy like configurations point old IP hence you need to change all configurtaions every place. This is basis activity however need to be very carefull.

if you are fmailair with config tool to update all properties correctly then no major issues with System copy.

if you go for new installtion you can easily folow the process like transporting all objects and checking interfaces results, it gives more clarity .

Hello Anandh,

if the system copy is properly done, you dont need to worry about the first 2 points.  Particulary regarding the certificates, if you are talking about the certificates using for the HTTPS service, it depends on whether in the new host you will be accessing the same url or not?  We use DNS aliases, so each time we move a system we still have the same hostname and the certificates are valid without any additional action, even having different IP addresses.  One important point for us is the firewall/proxy rules.  If you are connecting to 3rd parties out of your company network make sure that the new host is able to connect through the firewall/proxy in the same way that the old one.

In the SLD, the system will register itself under a new host so you will find new technical systems, you have to link the business systems to them.
