SQL Server 2008 & HP Data Protector

Hi,

Is anyone using HP Data Protector to backup their SAP SQL Databases?  If so, is there a relatively simple way to set this up/integrate DP with SAP?

We've done some tests here, and the backup times with Data Protector are more than double using CCMS/SQL Agent backups.

We're on SQL 2008 R2, various SAP releases, all NW7.02 and above.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Daniel,

yes we are using HP DP to backup all of our SAP SQL 2008R2 DBs.

We have 2 scenarios:

1. SQL Server in VMWare Backups over Network. The Backuprate is ~10-20MB/sec (1 GBit Network). (1 Stream). The Backuprate is not higher, because the Networkinterface of the Cell Server are at limit. In low Backupload time, we reached 50MB/sec over the Network.

2. SQL Server SAN attached, Backup over FC. (8Gbit). The Backuprate is ~ 100MB/sec (not parallelized, 1 Stream).

We tested parallelisem and reached a rate over 500MB/sec. (MegaByte not Bit), but the load was to heavy on target.

There should be no problem with the backupmechanism of DP.

Better check the Networkconnection between SAP and Cell server. Check which way the Backupstream take, maybe you backup over a third host! If you have a VTL, check VTL Performance.

Manuel
