SAP NW 7.3 with Oracle 11.2.0.3

Hi Experts,

We are trying to build a new SAP NW7.3 landscape which uses oracle RAC 11.2.0.3 .

The oracle RAC database teams wants to know how to build the database as per SAP 's guidelines

We went through the documentation here in SDN and in market place but we are not getting any clear idea on how to go about this .

The document in SCN states that install the database as part of normal SAP installation locally in a shared file systems(datafiles/archive /oracle home should be on a shared filesystem ) bring up the datbase ,finish the SAP installation and later make some config chnages ,so that datbase  is configured in RAC stop the database on the local server and start it up in RAC .

Is there any good document which explains much clearly then the one in SCN on how to do this ?

IS this the only method ?

or can we first install the database in RAC and just connect to it whne we perform the NW7.3 installation .

PS.I am an SAP BASIS administrator  with little working  knowledge in oracle and no knowledge in RAC

Regards

madhav

Hello Madhav,

In the following website you can find the steps to configure Oracle RAC for a SAP system:

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-15950

SAP currently does not support the installation of a SAP system directly on Oracle RAC as mentioned in the above guide:

There is no option available from SAP to install an Oracle RAC enabled database directly.

Hi Eduardo,

thanks for your reply , I was referring to this document only .

The document says use shared filesystems between the SAP server and Rac  cluster nodes .

Is this the only method supported by oracle and SAP

                     or

I can build the database locally and then move (through SFTP)  the, oracle home, datafiles, redolog files to RAC and follow the remaining steps ?

Hello Madhav,

The supported method is the Shared Oracle Home, as mentioned in the whitepaper:

Installing the Oracle software in a shared filesystem is classified as an installation with a "Shared Oracle Home".

Note: SAP with RAC requires a Shared Oracle Home. Oracle Grid Infrastructure software is installed locally on each node of the cluster.

Eduardo
