Centralized Maintenance Planning

Dear PM Expert,

So far my implementation is more on decentralised maintenance planning, where the maintenance planning plant and maintenance plant is the same. However, could explain what would be the difference in maintenance processing, preventative maintenance and etc.

E.g if preventive maintenance, is the maintenance planing plant need to monitor the  maintenance plan and once the order generated, who will do work execution and confirmation and goods issue from which plant.

Highly appreciate your input

Greetings Mitra,

A decentralised maintenance planning model will usually mean that one Maintenance Planning Plant is used to plan tasks in one Maintenance Plant and also this usually corresponds to one Logistics Plant. In other words, in a decentralised model, the maintenance processing, planning and listing tasks, inventory - happen in the same organizational unit and in the same geographical/physical location. Therefore it is ideal for largely self-contained plants (e.g. several combined heat power plants across the country)

In the decentralised model you will thus have separate sets of work orders, task lists, work centres, planner groups etc. therefore maintenance processing is virtually separate.

N.B. You may mix decentralised planning plants on a single Maintenance Plan theoretically, but it's not practical.

In a centralised model you will have one Maintenance Planning Plant planning maintenance and tasks for more than one Plant in a physical location. This can be the case, for example, if automated of semi-automated plants in a given region or in remote areas are maintained by a central maintenance division. Such plants may share some of the SAP objects used for planning, but are technically and often geographically distinct.

In this case the Maintenance Plans may also be logistics Plants where inventory is kept, or maintenance spares etc. may be supplied from the central location.

Therefore, the separate plants:

- will have their own technical objects structure, but the maintenance for those objects is going to be planned and processed using work orders and maintenance items in one Mntce Planning Plant

- may share a pool of Maintenance Plans

- may share a pool of Work Centres

- may be using Task lists from a single Planning Plant

- may or may not be Logistics Plants with own Storage Locations

Functional locations and equipments etc. will all belong to the same Planning Plant, but still only belong to one of the maintenance plants. Also storage areas will belong to one Logistics Plant only.

You can also have a mixed model, where some Maintenance Planning Plants correspond to only one Maintenance Plant (usually itself), and some correspond to several Mntce Plants. (e.g. several plants normally plan their own maintenance tasks, but some of them that are geographically approximate may share a central warehouse and a central maintenance division)

HI PM expert I repeat my question :

So far my implementation is on decentralised maintence planning org structure where the maintenance planning and maintenance plant will be same. Could you explain from preventative maintenance perspective what would be the difference is the centralised maintenance plannnig org structure is used.

E.g: in preventive maintenance, The maintenance planning plant need to monitor the maintenance plan. Once the order generated when the due , who will execute teh maintenance task, confirmation and goods issue from which plant?

I would like to know how the centralised maintenance planning works.

Thanks

Hi

Maintenance planning plant is where the planning will be done, like creation of task list, maintenance plan etc.

After order gets generated it will be performed at maintenance plant, like confirmation, goods movement etc
