Solved: 0003 error during initialization

Hello Team,

I got an error, i mean when I check the logs in DB14, I get 0003 error during initialization. kindly advice as the jobs are failing since many months. below are the logs from SM37.

Please check if the directory /oracle/BW3/sapbackup/ has the required ownership and permission.

Owner : ora<sid>

group : dba

permission : 755

Thanks for responding Ratnajit But I have already changed the permissions and checked.. still the job failed. and right now the permission for /oracle/BW3/sapbackup is 755 only. kindly provide an alternative solution. Thanks!

Did you recursively provide the permission to the directory /oracle/BW3/sapbackup?

Is the database and SAP application running on the same server .

chmod -R 775 /oracle/BW3/sapbackup

When i executed the following cmd, 'chmod -R 775 /oracle/BW3/sapbackup', i received this warning,

chmod: WARNING: can't change /oracle/BW3/sapbackup/behwvcgn.fnd

chmod: WARNING: can't change /oracle/BW3/sapbackup/behxjvrg.fnd

chmod: WARNING: can't change /oracle/BW3/sapbackup/behxotnj.fnd

and yes i changed the permission of /oracle/BW3/sapbackup 755 long back and the backups were still failing. and these backups are failing since the centrfication which happened in October 2011. but both orasid & sidadm has got the dba privileges

I believe you need to change the permission to 775 .

Also check the umask for <sid>adm and ora<sid> users.

Also check if both <sid>adm and ora<sid> are assigned to groups dba and oper.

I have now changed the permissions to 775 and yes both <sid>adm and ora<sid> are assigned to groups dba and oper. I will monitor the job for today and will let you know by tomorrow, thanks so much for your time

The backups are still running, but I have got this log initially, Kindly Advice .

The backups rean successfully with warnings on the 14th of August due to the following error.

Please recursively provide 775 permission to the directory /oracle/BW3/102_64/dbs/

chmod -R 775 /oracle/BW3/102_64/dbs/

Also check the owner and group are orabw3 and dba .

The backup seems to be sucessful .

Once you so that , your above warnings would also be removed.

Please provide the permission 775 recursively to the /oracle/BW3/saparch directory.

chmod -R 775 /oracle/BW3/saparch

Also make sure the directory saparch has owner ora<sid> and group dba.

You need an additional 49 GB approximately in /NASbrbackup/BW3 filesystem over and above the 144 GB free space that is available.

Unfortunately we cant extend the space of the file systems, as it involves financial implications.can you give me an alternative to solve this issue? like what kind of files can be moved or compressed?

You can delete the old backups which are not required . Also use the compress option while taking the backup.

the last directory is not accessible. though we are the owners of it.

please help as i am a beginner in SAP

Run

# chmod -R 777 BW3

Then check inside BW3 , which are the backups that can be deleted.

The below are the few files present under /NASbrbackup/BW3/BW3, I don't see any backup files. here and the backup which is taken is stored on tapes. Do we have any other way around to get this fixed? please assist
