space problem in /usr/sap in SUSE LINUX

Dear Team,

We got space utilization alerts in one of ours file system -> ./usr./sap. Our team deleted one folder (say 'A') from FS-> /usr/sap/trans/EPS.

This action reduced space from /usr/sap/trans/EPS but not from /usr/sap (warnings are still coming from /usr/sap file system). It is same thing whether we delete from /usr/sap or /usr/sap/trans/EPS.

Please clarrify on this issue....

Please check the filesystems you have in your system using df -h and list them here .

Say you have 2 filesystems /usr/sap and another /usr/sap/trans/EPS . They are allocated space from different logical volumes (space like drive in windows) say lv-usrsap (for /usr/sap) and lv-transEPS (for /usr/sap/trans/EPS). So anything under /usr/sap/trans/EPS is stored in logical volume lv-transEPS and anything /usr/sap except for the ones under /usr/sap/trans/EPS are stored in logical volume lv-usrsap. So if you delete anything under /usr/sap/trans/data , space will be release from FS /usr/sap ( i.e lv-usrsap) provided there no filesystems such as /usr/sap/trans etc and anything you delete under /usr/sap/trans/EPS, space would be released from FS /usr/sap/trans/EPS (i.e lv-transEPS).

Hope this helps .
