DISP+WORK.EXE shuts down automatically after a bri...

Hi Gurus

I am trying to access IDES solution manager installed on 64 bit windows 2003 and Oracle 10.2 and noticed that disp+work.exe automatically stops after sometime.

Below is the developer trace. Kindly let me know the possible reason and corrective action for this.

Hi satish,

You dispatcher is shutting down due to lack of memory (The problem is that SAP instance running on win2003 fulfills its memory requirement from virtual memory not from RAM) . I have faced the same issue in which i had installed a separate application server on Windows 2003 Server 64-bit for my Unix Based SAP System and my dispatcher was shutdown after 3mins. Well, i have resolved it by changing 2 things:

1. Increase the virtual memory of your windows machine. My system has 25 GB RAM and i have created a virtual memory of 15GB.

2. secondly set the parameter to the values lower than your virtual memory: PHYS_MEMSIZE = 5000, say in my case i have created a virtual memory of 15 GB and set this parameter to 5000. Remember, if you cant set this parameter then its value would be: PHYS_MEMSIZE=TOTAL RAM INSATALL. for example:

if your RAM = 10 GB and Virtual memory =5 GB then PHYS_MEMSIZE=10GB causing the SAP instance to shutdown after sometime as it fulfills the memory of PHYS_MEMSIZE from virtual memory not from RAM.

I have done the above mentioned changes and now my system is running good. I have also searched the forums for this problem of win2003 and got an answer: "RUNNING SAP IN WIN2003 IS SAME AS YOU ARE WORKING IN WINDOWS 98. THUS CHANGE THE OPERATING SYSTEM FROM WIN2003 TO WIN2008"

Hi Satish,

Because of a reason, could it be the tablespaces are in the backup mode? For example, a broken online backup process. Could you execute the statements, below and try to restart the SAP instance;

SQL> alter database end backup;

SQL> shutdown

SQL> startup

Then, start the SAP instance.
