BW upgrade question (time)

Hi forum,

we plan a BW+SEM upgrade. We would migrate from actual release 3.1 to new 7.0.

The system is Windows/Oracle box with 500 GB of tablespace.

How many time upgrade needs for this system (more or less of course) for R3UP/SAPINST procedure... 3 days ? 10 days ?

We need to plan DEV system upgrade and PRD system upgrade

Regards.

Ganimede Dignan.

3 days is what it took me for a system with about the same size.

investigate usage of downtime-minimized strategy, with this, whole upgrade took 3 days but only had about 6 hours of downtime.

It depends on the hardware and the strategy you choose (downtime or resource minimized).

Downtime minimized strategy allows you to perform some activities, like shadow import, during production time.

no downtime problem... we can leave off-line the system during upgrade.

I know that it's impossibile estimate extactly time usage... but more or less.

no one can do a better estimate then you.

define all your needed steps and start upgraing on DEV

take notes of times for each step and after the upgrade on DEV try to calculate it by comparing data on DEV and PRD.
