Heterogeneous System Copy

Hi Gurus,

I want to do an heterogenous System Copy (I'm certified for that) but I don't want to use R3load.

My OLD source system is :

SAP R/3 4.6C

HP-UX 11.00

ORACLE 9.2.0.7

The target system should be :

SAP R/3 4.6C

LINUX RED HAT ENTERPRISE 5, because 6 is not compatible with SAP R/3

ORACLE 10.2.0.5, because Oracle 11 is not compatible with SAP R/3

Does anyone have an idea ?

I would like to use DataPump but it's is not compatible with Oracle 9

Regards.

Hi Bruno,

If you would have same endian type on both sides, you could use transportable tablespaces;

http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25494/tspaces013.htm

But, HP-UX has big endian format while Linux has little endian. Under this circumstance, I need to ask that why you don't want to use R3load?

Hi,

Thanks for your answer.

I don't want to use R3load because the database is quite huge : 5 To.

R3load is not really adapt for big database.

There's one more reason that you can't use transportable ts; I missed the source database is Oracle 9. So, it is not possible to transport tablespaces across the different Oracle releases.

Additionally, you are using table splitting option, I guess. By using this option, we exported and imported 4 tb database.

Not many hours, we completed the operation in the weekend. But, of course it is dependent to the hardware.
