Hello,
I am installing SAP ERP EHP5 on LINUX REDHAT EL6/X86_64 64BIT.
Master DVD: 51040879_7
I have query for JRE and SAP JVM.
As per my understanding, SAP JVM gets installed automatically with SAPINST.
However, in my case SAPINST is giving popup for jre path. I have not installed IBM JAVA on this machine as I want to use JVM.
Hence, I would like to know whether I need to install SAP JVM separately ?
Any pointers.
Thanks.
I believe you are installing an ABAP only system . For ABAP based system the SAP JVM is not installed , its only installed for JAVA only and ABAP+JAVA systems as of NW AS 7.1 (JVM 5.1). For lower version than NW 7.1 you need to switch to SAP JVM 4.1 from vendor JDK. The SAP JVM is only used during the runtime of the JAVA based applications for providing the JRE . For installation , you still require vendor JDK . So install IBM JDK and start the installation.
Refer this note to clarify
Note 1689942 - vendor JDK required for sapinst with install./system copy

Hey Ratnajit,
Thanks for sharing note.
This is strange. SAP wants us to us SAP JVM but SAPINST still requires IBM JDK.
Problem is that IBM JDK is provided through the "Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP"
subscription. as per note: Note 1172419. My client does not have this support.
Can you suggest for this situation.
Thanks.
Please download the IBM JDK for Linux x86_64 using the SAP note
Note 1090932 - IBM download site for special JDK builds - iFix
You need to create an IBM account as described in the above note and use the access key to download the software.
Download the one under IBM SDK for Linux on 64-bit AMD/Opteron once the download page opens .
I hope this helps.

Hi Nirav,
Note that the SAPJVM is automatically installed after the NetWeaver Application Server Java 7.1. So we need to install the SAPJVM separately for ECC version.
latest version of SAPJVM is 4.1. Hope this helps.
