schedule lines for a line item

Hi friends

A customer asks for 1000 Qty has to be deliver 250 each for every week till it reaches to 1000 Qty

in the above scenario in stead of creating 4 schedule lines from one line item of 1000 quantity's

we can also create 4 line item's right

then what is the difference of creating 4 deliveries and 4 schedule line from one line item

can any one plz elaborate and explain me in detail

Hi,

To be precise, schedule lines not supposed to key in manually rather it has to determine by the system automatically. Its due to the fact, based on customer's requested delivery date system will confirm the qtties for latest possible delivery dates. During this system generally do availability check of requirements given, if it cant meet the deadline then ll propose next possible date in future that can be delivered. (depends on availability check configuration settings- backward or forward scheduling)

               the scenario you explained here, when the customer requested or provided delivery dates for specific line item, generally we record in scheduling agreements & deliver the goods accordingly. where as if you want to include this scenario in normal sales order, then i would propose you to split the line items instead manipulating schedule lines.

In one liner answers for your queries-

WHEN? - Any items which are relevant for delivery

HOW? - Based on availability check configuration settings

WHY? - To track/record the cost of the goods

In continuation to what Reazuddin said, normally, we break up the line items based on customer requested delivery date.

Having said this, in your case, ideally, it should be four line items instead of maintaining at schedule line level.  I would also say, there is nothing wrong even if you maintain at schedule line level.

If you maintain at schedule line level, then if you execute transaction code like VL10C, you can generate different DAs but of course, you can post the goods issue only for the stock available.  This is due to the fact, VL10C, system will show only one line item.  On the other hand, if you maintain four line items, all those four line items will be displayed in VL10C and users can select the required line item.

1.       Hi Kasi,

Pu      purpose of using schedule line is to fix quantity for stipulated order on given date in delivery.

2.       MRP (Material Requirement Planning) Type + Item Category = Schedule line. So item applicable for delivery will have  schedule line determination.

3.       As the above determination for schedule line is itself explanatory the  MRP Data and item category data is used for MM, PP and Sales for the respective order based on this backward and forward scheduling is decided and further ATP.

Furthermore whether one line item or four line items? 

I believe  you can use both the way to create your order, nobody will stop you but if both the option is available certainly one will go for one line item in order and not  four line items.….
