Hi All,
We are installing New Weaver 7 EHP 2, during the installation it's giving an option of unicode system, how ever we want to install Non unicode, can any one help. Is there any option to change the option to Non unicode after the installation process or during the installation process.
Regards
Abhishek
For new installations as of SAP NW 7.0 , SAP does not support non-unicode installation of new or fresh systems.
Only upgraded (version upgrade) or copied systems (using system copy method) can be non-unicode systems.
Is there a special need to have a non-unicode system ? Unicode is the way forward , so better go with unicode.
But if you really want to install a non-unicode system , you will have to use the system copy option of installing the system .
In that case the check box for selecting unicode system would be enabled. But you will have to create a migration export out of the export DVDs.
For that follow the SAP note Note 1244548 - IDES ERP 6.0 ECC 6.0 SR3
Refer to section 32 bit / 64 bit Support
Once you create the migration export , provide the path of the export to sapinst.

Hi Ratnajit,
Thanks for the reply, that was informative.
We are trying to create a test system, and want to refresh with Quality system data which is non unicoded, hence we are trying to find out a way in which we can create this system as non unicoded.
I would like to know if we perform a client copy on the new system after the installation of NW7 EHP2, which apparently supports only unicode, will that work fine?
Regards
I suggest you use sapinst to export data from quality system and the again use sapinst to build the non-unicode test system and load the data. This would build a non-unicode test system with NW 7.02.
Follow the SAP standard system copy guide and use the R3load method. Since the test system will be a fresh system , then following this method would build a clean system.
You should not perform remote client copy between non-unicode and unicode system.

Hi Abhishek,
You can install an SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR1 or SR2 ABAP system as a non-Unicode system.
When you install an SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR1 or SR2 dual-stack system (ABAP+Java), the ABAP part of this system can also be installed as non-Unicode. The Java part of this system can only be installed as Unicode.
As of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3, you cannot install an SAP NetWeaver 7.0 ABAP system or the ABAP part of an SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 dual-stack system as non-Unicode any longer.
However, non-Unicode is still supported when you perform the system copy for an SAP system upgraded to SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3.
Hope this helps.

For any new installation on SAP NW 7.0 onwards , you cannot install non-unicode system .
Non-unicode system is only supported for copied and upgraded systems .
As I mentioned in one of my previous replies , you can use the method I mentioned to install a non-unicode system as a system copy .
So it is not possible to install a non unicode system with the n.w 7.0 ehp1 SR1
