Unable to receive serial number with status AVLB EDEL on returns

Hello,

This scenario is for EWM but I assume would be the same in ECC.Either way I am looking for a reason why the serial number status has not changed.

Please let me know if there are any OSS notes related to this.

We are having an issue while receiving serial numbers on a
return delivery.

The scenario is that we have created an outbound sales order
(type ZEQ) and corresponding delivery to EWM.

During picking we have manually assigned a serial number in
EWM.For example if there were 1 through 5 serial numbers for material X we
entered 6 in EWM and performed PGI.The PGI went through successfully.

The status of the serial number is currently AVLB EDEL.

A return sales order of type ZREQ and corresponding outbound
delivery are created.During goods receipt the same serial number 6 for material
X is entered and PGR is performed.

The PGR is not being transferred to ECC as the error message
says "System status EDEL is active"

The question is why did the serial number status not change
to "ECUS" after PGI.

Also would it be an issue of manually entering a serial
number in EWM with status "AVLB" instead of entering a serial number
created from GR of a purchase order or production whose status then would have
been "ESTO"
