Internal Numbering/Sales Order-Material Master

Dear All,

I have a doubt and need clarification.

When we are creating a material with internal number range assignment, as soon as we start creating the material, system assigns a number, so even if we terminate the transaction, that number will be "consumed".  Whereas in a sales order, number is only created when we save the sales order.

Is it an SAP design? If yes, can somebody highlight the reason.  If no, then what is the setting we need to maintain so that a number is not consumed if we terminate material creation in between.

Hi Adithya,

the reason for number jumping iduring material master is internal number range is made to available to multiple users, i mean when one user is creating the master paralley other user also creating system fetches the next number range available in the system.
