Upgrade Path from SAP Netweaver 7.0 to SAP Netweaver 7.3

Hi,

Our Development system is currently on SAP Netweaver 7.0 with add-on

components SEM-BW 600 and FINBASIS 600 on DB2 9.1 FixPak 5.

We are implementing Business Objects which is dependent on the upgrade

of this SAP Netweaver 7.0 system to SAP Netweaver 7.3. The upgrade of

SAP Netweaver 7.0 to SAP Netweaver 7.3 directly is not supported.

Therefore, we have to install EHP1 for SAP Netweaver 7.0 and add-on

components SEM-BW 604 and FINBASIS 604 before we can upgrade to SAP

Netweaver 7.3 (SAP Note 1535396).

Our planned upgrade path is as follows:

DB2 Upgrade to 9.7 Fix Pak 4

EHP1 Installation for SAP Netweaver 7.0

Dual-Stack Split

Upgrade to SAP Netweaver 7.3 EHP1

Acccording to the Dual-Stack Split Guide, the following software is

required:

Dual-Stack Split Tools

Java DVD (SAP Netweaver 7.0 EHP1)

RDBMS Client DVD (DB2 9.1 or DB2 9.5)

According to the Java Installation Guide for SAP Netweaver 7.0 EHP1,

sapinst automatically installs DB2 9.1 or DB2 9.5.

Question 1: At this stage our system will be on DB2 9.7. Will sapinst

on the Java DVD accept the RDBMS Client DVD for DB2 9.7 ?

Question 2: If we carry out the dual-stack split on DB2 9.1 FixPak 11

and perform the DB2 Upgrade to 9.7 after the split, we cannot use the

new SUM tool for the EHPI Installation because a pre-requisite to use

this tool is DB2 9.7 Fix Pak 3 (SAP Note 1684165)

Has anyone successfully used this Upgrade path ?

1. When you upgrade to DB2 9.7 , you will have to manually update the client as well . In the RDBMS client DVD , go to /<path>/CLIENT . Then run the script db6_update_client.sh to update the client . This will update both the CLI driver for ABAP and JDBC T4 driver for the JAVA stack.

2. When you upgrade to DB2 9.7 , the software that you will use will also include the Fix pack. So when you upgrade to DB2 9.7 , you system would be directly upgraded to DB2 9.7 FP4 (if you downloaded the software with Fixpack 4 from the SAP service marketplace) . You do not have to apply fixpacks after upgrade .

Hope your queries are answered.

Hi,

Many thanks for the feedback.

Our SAP Netweaver 7.0 BW system is a dual-stack system (ABAP and JAVA).  Both ABAP and JAVA stacks reside on the same server. SAP Netweaver 7.0 EHP3 is the last release with dual-stack support, therefore it is mandatory to carry out a dual-stack split before the upgrade to SAP Netweaver 7.3.  After the dual-stack split, both the ABAP and JAVA stack will reside on separate servers with different SIDs.  The ABAP SID will remain the same and the split tool will rename the JAVA SID.

My main concern relates to the dual-stack split procedure and the software required:

Dual-Stack Split Tools

Java DVD - (SAP Netweaver 7.0 EHP1) - this will be our source release when performing the Dual-Stack split.  The Dual-Stack split re-installs the Java System with new SID on a separate server.

RDBMS Client DVD - DB2 9.1 or DB2 9.5 is automatically installed with SAP Netweaver 7.0 EHP1

When performing the dual-stack split, our database will be on DB2 9.7 Fix Pak 4.  Is it possible to use DB2 9.7 RDBMS Client DVD during the re-installation of the SAP Netweaver 7.0 EHP1 Java System.

We will also be using the Software Update Manager which replaces the EHPI tool to install EHP1 for SAP Netweaver 7.0 which requires a minimum of DB2 9.7 Fix Pak 3.  So it is also not an option to perform the DB2 Upgrade to 9.7 after the dual-stack split.

When you split out the JAVA stack from the ABAP stack and reinstall the JAVA stack as a separate system  , you will have to provide RDBMS DVD and RDBMS client DVD which should be for DB2 9.7 FP4 atleast to SAPINST .

Also I have mentioned in my previous reply that , the upgrade to DB2 9.7 would include FP 4 as well . You will not have to update the fixpack separately . Hence you can use SUM as the tool for moving to NW 7.3.

Let me summarize the steps.

1. You upgrade the NW 7.0 system(ABAP+JAVA) to DB2 9.7 FP4 (Fixpack 4 would be directly installed after the upgrade , bo separate fixpack update required)

2. Upgrade to NW 7.0  EHP1 using SAP EHPI or SUM

3. Split the ABAP and JAVA stack . JAVA to be installed as a separate system with a separate database. Use SAPINST to export the JAVA stack and import/install using SAPINST a separate java system . Required would be JAVA DVD, Installation master, RDBMS DVD(DB2 9.7 FP4), RDBMS client DVD(DB2 9.7 FP4), Kernel DVD

4. Upgrade the ABAP stack on NW 7.0 EHP1 to NW 7.3 using the SUM tool.

Hi Ratnajit,

Many thanks for the prompt response.

We are planning to split our ABAP and Java Stack using the MCOD option.

When carrying out the split, our source release will be on SAP Netweaver 7.0 EHP1 and DB2 9.7 Fix Pak 4.

So I will be using the Java Installation DVDs for SAP Netweaver 7.0 EHP1 to re-install the new Java System which automatically installs DB2 9.1 or DB2 9.5 software.

Will sapinst on these DVDs allow me to change the RDBMS client software to DB2 9.7 Fix Pak 4? Or will the installation require a DB2 9.1 or DB2 9.5 DVD label ?

If you use MCOD , your java scheam will be in the same DB2 9.7 FP4 database .

If you move out your JAVA schema into a separate database , then use DB2 9.7 FP 4 both for server and client . DB2 9.7FP4 software and client  will be automatically installed by SAPINST once you provide the path to the DVDs.

Also the client and server for DB2 should be on the same version and fixpack level.

So go for DB2 9.7 FP4.

Hi Niamh,

Yes this is possible. We did this type of upgrade recently.

I have documented few issues during this upgrade in the blog below :

Thanks,
