SAP Kernel upgrade from 700 to 720

Dear all,

What advices can you give for Kernel upgrade ( 700 - > 720 ) on AIX 64BIT UNICODE ?

I have done before just  Kernel upgrade, but just the packages upgrade, e.g. from 700 package 190 to 333, but I think now this upgrade from 700 to 720 will be a bit different ? Or the procedure is the same ? I just download the new packages replace with the old ones ?

Thanks in advance,

J.

Hi Jordan,

Refer to Note 1629598 - SAP Kernel 720 will replace older kernel versions

Thanks,

Hi Ravindra,

I know this note. Thank you, it writes about benefits and new things added, but I need to know about the procedure. How it is different from a normal kernel upgrade for pacthes ?

Thank you,

Hi Jordan,

In that note itself check Note 1636252 - Installing a 7.20 kernel in SAP Web AS 7.00/7.01/7.10/7.11

It has all the procedure details.

Thanks,

Ravi

Hi Ravindra,

You are right, I am just reading it. Sorry, I thought the note is much smaller

Thanks a lot!

Hallo,

I can't speak for AIX but only Solaris but there the procedure hasn't changed.

Keep in mind if you go from 7.00 to 7.20 that you have to replace the whole contents of /sapmnt/<SID>/exe rather than just patching the contents.

Run SGEN after the restart and you should be done.

Thomas.
