Hi Experts ,

While user trying to submit request for self password reset it shows error

" User has account: reset was not possible due to inital password forthis user is expired on this system " .

I know that once the inital password is expired when the user was created we need to contact the adminstrator to reset the password

Is there anyway we can override this error in GRC Self password reset .

Thanks & Regards

NSK Mohan

Hi Mohan,

As I have updated that it has been lastly fixed in SP18.0 so it should not behave like this. However, the condition in which it will result into such issue is also given in my response which says it is sporadic when return value is -1.

Can you try to upgrade the patch on SP18.. i.e. SP18.14 and test this issue?

Let us know how it goes.

Hi Mohan,

There is  profile  parameter in the R/3 system( where your user exists)

login/password_max_idle_initial -- Specifies the maximum period for which an initial password (a password chosen by the administrator) remains valid if it is not used. After this period has expired, the password can no longer be used for authentication. The user administrator can reactivate password-based logon by assigning a new initial password

Kindly check what is the value for this parameter. You can increase the duration of password expiry using this to avoid this error.

Hi Mohan,

As per the above SAP Note you can follow the error code 475 given in the note.

The reason for this error is that PWDSTATE is having a value less then o i.e. -1 which results into this error and it is sporadic in nature.

The function module /VIRSA/USER_RESET_PASSWORD calls an executable program,

which I am unable to debug, that does some processing and returns 0,1,2,3,-1,-2

for PWDSTATE. For my scenario, the PWDSTATE stored in USR02 is equal to 255,

and the PWDSTATE resolved/returned by this program is 1.

There is a fix in SP17 Patch 1, and again the same fix in SP18.

Hi Mohan,

For the password self-service issue, please refer to SAP Note :-

1700230- PSS: Unable to reset password in the following system(s):<system name>

I hope this works for you.
