DB2INSTANCE error during sapinst 'Start Instance' step.

Former Member

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to figure this problem out and unfortunately no forum topics were helpful so far.

I decided to post my problem here.

During my sapinst central system installation, the 'Start instance' step (39/47) pops an error:

"Instance FDV/DVEBMGS10 reached state SHUTDOWN after having state STARTING. Giving up"

see attached screenshot

To dig deeper into the problem, I've learned to check the Db2 trace files (/usr/sap/FDV/DVEBMGS10/work/dev_w0).

I already tried rebooting the server and still no go.

Expecting that SAPINST declare all needed environment variables, i wonder what caused the program to skip over this step.

I'll be happy to post any other info needed.

Thanks and Regards

Issue has been resolved. Installation Media has been compromised. I just recopied everything from the CDs and reexecuted the installation steps.

im using DB2 UDB for RHEL 6.3. This happens on the last 'Start instance' step from my installation. What i don't understand is why does this happen on a fresh installation?

Other than LABEL.ASC verification, does SAPINST verify the integrity of the installation media?

can you please login as user fdvadm and run the env command and paste the output here .

Please check under /home/fdvadm the file .dbenv_<hostname>.csh exists and is owned by fdvadm user.

Here's the output of the 'env' command:

The .dbenv_<hostname>.csh file are owned by the fdvadm user.

What I'm really confused about is why alot of variables are not set? especially during an installation.

For example: User db2adm's DSCDB6HOME and DB6EKEY variables are not set.

Hi Brian,

We have encountered same problem with our installation (We are installing Solman 7.1). Have you figured out any solution to that?

Our system is Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
