Hello Basis experts
Our PI server is near meltdown it is full and running at 110% of its table space. There are 5 million messages that need to be processed and all disks are full with table SXMSPMAST having most of the data. Our PI is so full that reports like RSXMB_DELETE_MESSAGES, RSXMB_CANCEL_MESSAGES etc are not running and they are not even able to create dumps. On running the report RSXMB_SHOW_REORG_STATUS it gave that 5 million messages can be deleted ignoring message status . But the delete report itself is not able to run , prbably because there is just not enough disk space to even run transactions.
I would be really thankful if anyone can suggest how can we get back our system into a stable condition from this situation . Can we clear some space by deleting manually some files/folders from the PI server ? Did anyone face a similar situation?
Looking forward to your responses.
Thank you .
Hi Venkat,
if the basis guys don't come up with something better, you could do the following:
1. Stop all communication on your PI (de-register queues on satellite systems, stop communication channels, something like that).
2. Add some temporary disk space to your system.
3. Run maintenance jobs like archiving and deleting. For deleting, don't use table switch mode.
Afterwards make sure you start with a low retention time and gradually increase as you monitor how much the system can take.
Weekend is coming! 🙂

Jörg

Few cents. Talk to your client and make a practice of archiving PI messages every week and Keep latest only last 7 days or so messages. Rest move it to some disk. This way we can avoid loading too much on the server disk.
