Unfortunately MDM isn't built on the Web Application Server like most of the NetWeaver applications, so standard ALE is out of the question. Because of this, you sort of have to treat MDM as though it's a third party product, although SAP does offer some options for registering MDM into the SLD. Keep in mind that SAP delivers some MDM content for XI that makes it really easy to configure a scenario. I would definitely recommend checking that out.
