You can combine similar cost centers to form cost center groups. You may then combine similar groups into further groups to create a cost center hierarchy.
You can use cost center groups:
You must maintain the
standard hierarchy for your controlling area in the master data. Here, you have the option of creating and changing other cost center groups.
Complete the IMG activity
1. Structure the cost centers in your controlling area along cost accounting standpoints.
2. Enter the group to be created or changed and choose "Enter".
3. In the structure screen, select the node from which the group is to be extended and choose "Same level" or "Lower level".
Data fields appear at the selected location in the tree structure.
4. Enter a name and a text for the new node.
5. Confirm by choosing "Accept changes".
6. To assign values to an end node, select the node and choose "Insert value".
Data fields appear in the tree structure.
7. Enter a "From" value and, if necessary, a "To" value.
8. Confirm by choosing "Accept changes".
The selected values appear together with the name.
To transport cost center groups, there is a separate function in Customizing under Controlling -> General Controlling .
Note that groups have no validity period. However, most master data is time-based.

Hello,
In transportation functionality of SD a shipment cost document is created and later on relased to accounting.
At the time of realesing to accounting--we have to give account assignments. ther we give GL account and cost center.
therefore no CCTR group comes into picture.
Though for repoting purposes CCTR groups may help.
