This "tool" has a license cost?

Anyone know a how-to guide on AIF?

Please provide still more detailed statement. You can interface PI with any application interface framework. You might want to check with that team about supporting communication standards like File, Web service, JDBC etc.  If you know the protocols, we can use PI accordingly choosing right adapters to do interface. Hope that helps.
