We have a stable SAP 4.7 installation and an Oracle 11.2.0.2 DB both installed on the same Windows Server 2003 sp2 64bit box. Can we move just the DB from the windows box to a Red Hat Linux 6.2 server? If so, would the homogeneous or heterogeneous copy be the way to go?
Heterogeneous system copy would be the way to go.
You will have to use SAPINST to export the database (R3load method) and then install/import data into the database again using sapinst.
Follow the SAP standard heterogeneous system copy guide.

Besides system copy guide, you need installation guide as well, look at section Heterogeneous Installation and Distributed installation. In order for diff platform, CI to talk with DB, you need to store one securekey generated on DB server to the CI. Prettyl straighfoward.
