We have a stable SAP 4.7 installation and an Oracle 11.2.0.2 DB both installed on the same Windows Server 2003 sp2 64bit box. Can we move just the DB from the windows box to a Red Hat Linux 6.2 server? If so, would the homogeneous or heterogeneous copy be the way to go?
Hi Rich,
Can we move just the DB from the windows box to a Red Hat Linux 6.2 server? If so, would the homogeneous or heterogeneous copy be the way to go?
Yes you can. As you want to move your database from Windows to Linux x86 (both little endian), there is a much easier and faster way to do that called "Cross-Platform Transportable Database".
I have written a blog about that procedure: http://scn.sap.com/community/oracle/blog/2010/05/09/oracle-migrating-sap-systems-on-oracle-with-less...
The blog describes a migration from HP-UX to AIX (both big endian), but it is the same for Windows and Linux. I have already done that several times.
Best Regards
Stefan

Hi,
This will be a heterogeneous migration.
You need to make sure that 4.7 kernel should be Ext kernel then only Redhat Linux 6 with oracle 11g will be supported.
Thanks
