Folks,

What are the pros and cons of using PPM conversion with or without lot size margin?

What's recommended to use and why?

Please advise.

Hi,

You can check in /n/SAPAPO/PPM_CONV_310, F1 help document for "Typical Order Lot Size" field:

As the length of the order is generally dependent on the lot size, you should enter in this field the typical order lot size. When choosing this lot size you should make sure that it corresponds to the typical SNP lead time, as all SNP orders (that you create from the generated SNP PPM) obtain the duration from the temporary PP/DS order.

Usually, the larger the typical order lot size, the longer the duration of the generated SNP PPM activities. Note that choosing too large an order lot size, can cause the duration of the activities to exceed the size of the bucket, which means that the system is unable to generate an SNP PPM.

Therefore, there are several options for determining the typical order lot size (see the F4 input help for possible entries).

Thanks, Claire. I too was thinking along the same lines as to use a lot size that corresponds to a days capacity of the resource so the fixed duration of one day will fill up the (critical) resource(s)'s available time.

In your scenarios, are you having to adjust manually, or automatically via a custom program, the generated PPMs?
