Backward consumption period

Hello Experts,

Can anyone please tell something about "Bwd Cons. Period" and "Fwd Cons. Period"  as maintained in product master for consumption.? What is its impact?

One confusion: If for example the "Bwd Cons. period" maintained is 60 days. The forecast for May & June is10ea respectively, the sales 15 for may. Is it because of the backward consumption the withdrawal for June is shown as 5 in june?

Thanks in advance

Nisha

Dear,

Bwd Cons. period" maintained is 60 days. The forecast for May & June is10ea respectively, the sales 15 for may.

May 10 and June 10 you have forecast and sales if of 15 in may so system will consume the forecast of may as you have 60 days backward consumption period. If you have another sales order in June or July it will consume the forecast of June.

Hi Rupesh,

You mean to say that the May sales of 5 (which is above the forecast) will not be consumed by June forecast.

Thanks & Regards

Hi,

If you don't have forward consumption period define in product master then it will not consume. As you have backward consumption period of 60 day then it will consume forecast in backward direction only.

Hi Rupesh,

We have forward consumption period maintained as 30 days. Now does it mean that excess sales in May will be consumed in June forecast.

Definition of backward consumption period:

"Defines the consumption period (in calendar days) for backward consumption.

In backward consumption, sales orders, dependent requirements or material reservations consume forecasted demand that lies within the consumption period and before the requirements date." - please can you give one example how this will work.

Thanks in advance

Dear,

Yes you are right in forward consumption system will consume the forecast for future period.

If forward consumption period maintained as 30 days then sales in May will consume the June forecast.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

What happens in the vice versa case i.e if sales is 5, forecast of May is 10?

We run md74 on first of every month, this makes the previous month's forecast as 0, then how come this concept of forward consumption works?

What will happen if instead of running md74 we delete the forecast by "rlcdel" whether then too the forward consumption concept will work in the same way?

please give one instance of how the backward consumption affects!

Dear,

After the forecast of the current period is completely used up  then sales orders that come in can consume the unconsumed forecast of the previous periods or periods in the future, depending on your consumption parameters backward or forward. If no forecast is there then will not get consume by sales order.

When you delete forecast orders you should always use the "Reorganization" report (/sapapo/MD74). Because this is the only way to ensure that the withdrawal DB tables are adjusted correctly.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

This means that if we reduce the forward consumption period to 0, then May's excess sale (over forecast) will not be consumed in June forecast. What other probable affect will this change have?

Dear,

Yes it has no other affect only system will consume the forecast in backward direction as per the period given in product master.

Good morning Rupesh,

Thanks for your reply.

Can you please specify how will backward consumption affect.

For example: Backward consumption period is 60 days.

June forecast is 10, sales is 15, May forecast is 10 no sales then will the 5 excess will be considered in may

In the same case if backward and foreward both are maintained, forward is maintained as 30, then will system consider these 5 against July's forecast or against May

Dear,

For example: Backward consumption period is 60 days.

June forecast is 10, sales is 15, May forecast is 10 no sales then will the 5 excess will be considered in may

As you have sales in June as 15 and consumption in backward 60 days and May forecast is of 10  it will consume forecast of may of quantity of 10 only.

In the same case if backward and foreward both are maintained, forward is maintained as 30, then will system consider these 5 against July's forecast or against May

Yes it will consider if it comes under consumption period duration for sales order requirement date. Please test the same in you quality system and come back.

Hi Rupesh,

My objective is that May excess sales should not be consumed in June. In QA, I had made backward consumption and forward consumption as 0, plus I had deleted the old forecast in system using rlcdel instead of md74. Yet it is observed that excess sales in May is consumed in June forecast. Can you suggest some solution.

Thanking you in advance
