SAP JVM not found during PI upgrade (SUM)

Hi,

we are upgrading our SAP PI 7.11 tot 7.3 and the SAP upgrade manager fails with:

Could not detect SAP JVM on the system.

com.sap.sdt.j2ee.tools.sapjvm.SapJvmException: DIR_CT_SAPJVM is not set in the profile for instance DVEBMGS20 on host ciuxd.

SAP JVM however can be found and wether the parameter is in the profile or not, it doesn't make a difference for the SUM. We've asked SAP for help, but after a week still no resolution, so maybe one of you ran into the same problem and can help us out.

I know this is really not a PI problem but a SUM / SAP JVM as it seems, but it does occur on our PI system and since there is no specific NetWeaver upgrade group I'm posting it here.
