Regarding TREX in SRM-MDM Catalog 3.0

Hi guys,

We are evaluating the SRM-MDM catalog management solution for a customer.

Basically from what I know and understanding about SRM-MDM Catalog Management:

è The integration between SRM and MDM replaced the CCM in SRM, that the catalog search functionality can be provided by MDM itself (Search UI). So TREX is not needed if MDM is used as a central repository.

è MDM itself can utilize TREX ‘to search PDFs that are stored in data’ as mentioned in MDM 7.1 master guide and note 1133493.

è Of course, TREX can be used for embedded search for SRM-specific business object, such as contract, vendor, etc. This scenario has nothing to do with MDM though.

So my question is:

In SRM-MDM Catalog Management, is TREX still needed if customer wants to search the text within documents (PDF, word, etc) that within the hyperlink? (Does the catalog search UI provide such functionality? )

Or TREX has nothing to do with MDM in SRM-MDM scenario?

Thank you and best regards,

Jiana

Hi Jiana,

TREX is not needed for SRM-MDM Catalog at all. It has it's own way to search in the catalog data.

And unfortunately, it is not possible to search within the text of attached documents.

Timea
