sap spool issue

Hi Experts,

We are facing a strange problem for past 2 weeks.

When the users are trying to print the pint outs from SAP they get only a blank page.

The spool request is created successfully. But the output request finishes with a message as "completed with problems".

Nothing has been changed in the system and in the network printers.

Its a SAP 4.6c release with windows/MSSQL.

The installed languages in the system are English & German.

I checked the spool logs and go the following .

==========

Print request processing log

Character converter active when first problem occurred

Data was saved with character set 1100

Data is being converted to character set 1117

Errors occurred processing this print request

OTF module: Character set conversion I -> S failed

OTF module: Character set conversion I -> S failed

OTF module: Character set conversion I -> S failed

OTF module: Character set conversion I -> S failed

OTF module: Character set conversion I -> S failed

===========

Also i tested by adding a new o/p device in the system, where we were able to print successfully with some formats but again for LETTER format we did not get any error but a warning as "OTF module: Unknown print control should be output".

But for the existing printers only a blank page is printed.

For one of the existing o/p device where we are facing the issue the format x_65_160 is printed but the other formats like LETTER & DIN A4 are not printed.

The users awe able to print normal documents fine from the sap printer.

Any help will be useful and thanks for the suggestions.

Regards,

Archana

Hello,

The error: Character set conversion I -> S failed should be resoved

by kernel patch in

note.849315 OTF module: Character set conversion I -> S failed

Hi Archana,

is yoour "Host Spool Access Method" (in SPAD --> Access Method) set to "G"? If not i suggest to set the access method to G and check wether this helps or not.

Please also have a look at note 849315 which describes your problem very well.

Hi Jann,

I saw this SAP note as well. This note suggest to patch the kernel for 6.0 & 7.0 release. But my system is a 4.6c release with the below kernel patch level 2364.

Does this applies for my system as well?If so please let me know i will try the kernel patch.

Thanks,

Archana

Hi Vish ,

There is no saplpd service pesent in the task manager.I tried adding 2 o/p devices where i am not facing this isssue. Also there is no saplpd service configured in the CI & the dialog instance.

Print outs through LOCA printing is working fine.

In one of the already existing o/p device i was able to print request created in formats of X_65_132 but not of formats LETTER & DIN A4.

I think the above info will be useful for the experts in providing me a solution.

Many thanks.

Thanks,

Archana

Hi

Did you take a look at note '1618837  - How to Analyse Spool for Performance or Host Spooler problem'?

This might help.

As I mentioned before: Do you use access method "G"? If you need further information, please see note 821519.

Hi Jann,

Thanks for the info.

We are using access method U-for remote printing,we dont have the access method G as its a old release 4.6c system.

Can you please provide on this as well as the user is able to print successfully in formats X_65_132 formats but not in LETTER & DIN A4 formats.

Many thanks,

Archana
