Hi,
I am jut wondering if we can use the underlying database which NW is installed upon and where MII is running for storing, querying and collect the shopfloor data, or do we need to have a seperate database such as SQL server. I am just thinking of over head costs.
Thanks,
Prasad
I would highly recommend using a separate Database for your shop floor data.
There are a number of reasons that it is better to use a new dedicated DB for your operational data including backup issues and user management. The relationship between NW and it's underlying database is extremely complex and i would be wary in anything that could disrupt it.
That said, there should not be a problem with creating a new database on the same server, in the same instance as your Netweaver's SID database.

If i understand your post, this is discussed in this thread http://scn.sap.com/thread/1332810
My recommendation is to use a separate database.
