Copy Fields like Cust Mat No. from main Item to Sub Item in case of substitution

Dear Gurus,

I am working on copying fields which are not copied from main item to sub item in case of substitution i a sales order. For this i need your help for logic for code. Can anyone help me for the approach, i mean how many custom tables to be created and how the code will copy the fields. I have identified atleast 12 such fields which are not copied. Thanks in advance.
