Can SAP can be connected to external devices through ABAP

Hi All,

  Can we connect SAP system to external devices like proximity card reader , boom barrier which opens for truck entry etc.... I need to integrate SAP to these external components.. I can able to use SAP PI ..

Please provide your inputs...

You can try to use sapjco or any RFC related approach so to call RFC   to external source and there you can do whatever you want.

Hi Srikanth,

If the external components have an interface to make possible the connection to them, it is possible that SAP can connect to them. You should think that the SAP PI purpose is to provide an medium to interconect all systems.

Depending  external component interface the connection would be easy if use standard or industry protocols or could be more complex if you have to implement a low-level conectivity with for example a specific socket communication.

Yes you would be able to connect to card readers etc.
